Microchipping
A microchip is only as useful as the registration behind it. A chip that isn’t registered in a searchable database cannot reunite you with your pet. If your pet was chipped at a shelter, clinic, or vet, take five minutes to confirm the registration is current and linked to your current contact information.
Free Pet Chip Registry at freepetchipregistry.com is a free, no-solicitation universal registry. Any chip, from any manufacturer, can be registered at no cost. Your information will not be sold or shared with third parties.
Medications
Prescription pet medications are often available at significantly lower cost than through a veterinary office dispensary.
GoodRx at goodrx.com/pet-health offers discounts on pet prescriptions at major pharmacies.
Walmart pharmacy fills many common pet medications at standard retail pricing — often a fraction of what the same drug costs at a vet clinic. Ask your vet to write a prescription you can fill elsewhere; they are generally required to provide one upon request.
Pet Food Assistance
No pet should go hungry because their family is going through a hard time.
Local food pantries in the Hilton Head area may carry pet food and supplies, in part thanks to the efforts of organizations like Salty Paws of the Lowcountry, which donates pet food and supplies to area pantries on a regular basis.
